Accessibility statement

We want people with different reading, communication and access needs to use this website. This statement describes the tools available, their limits and how to ask for help.

Last reviewed: 10 October 2026

In a few words

  • You can make the words bigger and change the colours.
  • You can choose English or Welsh and use Easy Read.
  • You can ask the browser to read a page aloud.
  • Some reports and browser voices may be harder to use.
  • Tell us if something does not work for you. We can discuss another way to share the information.

Tools you can use

Open the Accessibility Menu in the header to change your reading view. “Reading options” opens the initial reading setup again. You can choose whether your device remembers your preferences.

  • Text size controls, alternative contrast themes and highlighted links.
  • A dyslexia-friendly font option and wider text spacing.
  • Easy Read content where provided and reduced-motion settings.
  • English and Welsh language controls.
  • “Listen to Page”, using the browser’s speech-synthesis feature.
  • A skip-to-content link, visible keyboard focus and keyboard-operable navigation and dialogs.

Our approach and testing

We use WCAG 2.2 as a design and testing reference. We check practical behaviour such as keyboard use, visible focus, readable contrast themes, smaller-screen layouts, language changes and reading controls.

These checks are not an independent accessibility certification and do not establish that every page, device, assistive technology or downloadable document meets every WCAG success criterion.

The short summaries on these information pages are plain-language summaries, not replacements for the full notices or evidence of independent Easy Read validation. The full text remains available when Easy Read mode is on.

Known limitations

Browser voices vary. A suitable Welsh voice may not be installed, and some voices use online services. You can stop speech and use the page text instead.

Reading controls and language switching need JavaScript. Without it, the main English page text and contact links remain available. These information pages also offer English/Welsh links for browsers without JavaScript.

Uploaded reports and linked external documents may not have full screen-reader tagging, a logical reading order or an Easy Read version. Selectable PDF text alone does not establish accessible PDF compliance. External websites have their own accessibility arrangements.

Subtitle languages and separate transcripts depend on the video selected by WCLD. Their availability and accuracy are not guaranteed by the website. Video controls are provided by YouTube; the website’s reading settings do not change that player. If you need another format, contact WCLD.

Animated names, logos and decorative motion may be distracting. Use reduced motion in the Accessibility Menu or your operating system. Easy Read versions may summarise longer content rather than reproduce every detail.

Ask for help or another format

Contact WCLD using the email below if you find a barrier or need information in another format. Please tell us which page or document you were using, what you wanted to do and what would help. You can include your device, browser or assistive technology if useful, but you do not need to explain a diagnosis.

We will consider the request and discuss an appropriate way to provide the information or address the barrier. We do not promise that every external document can immediately be converted into every format.
