Cookies and website preferences

We use functional reading preferences and necessary security services. We do not add advertising or visitor-tracking tools to this website.

Last reviewed: 10 October 2026

In a few words

  • This website does not track you for adverts.
  • It can remember your language and how you like to read.
  • You can switch remembering off below, in Reading options or in the Accessibility Menu.
  • When remembering is off, your choices work on the current page. A new page starts with the default view.
  • Your browser keeps a small on/off setting so the website can respect your choice.

Cookies and similar technologies

A cookie is a small value stored by your browser. localStorage and sessionStorage are different browser-storage mechanisms, but privacy rules also cover them. Calling a service “cookie-free” does not mean it never processes personal information.

The public website uses localStorage for functional preferences. These values contain settings, not a unique visitor identifier, and the website does not send them to an analytics service.

What is stored on your device

Remembering is enabled by default for these functional preferences. You can object at any time using “Remember my preferences on this device”. These values have no automatic expiry; clearing this website’s data in your browser also removes them.

  • wcld:lang — your English or Welsh language choice.
  • wcld:a11y — text size, contrast, font, spacing, reduced motion, highlighted links and Easy Read settings.
  • wcld:welcomed — whether you have already seen the reading setup.
  • wcld:remember — “on” or “off”, used only to respect your remembering choice. This marker is kept when remembering is off.

What happens when remembering is off

The three stored reading-preference values are removed. New reading and language choices remain in memory on the current page only. The website does not read old disabled preferences before drawing the page or save new ones while remembering is off.

You can still use all the reading tools. Moving to another page or reloading starts from the default view or your browser’s language. The reading setup may appear again. Switching remembering back on saves the current page’s settings.

If your browser blocks storage, reading tools still work on the current page, but the website may not be able to remember the on/off choice. Without JavaScript, the website does not save new reading preferences.

Necessary security and administration

Cloudflare provides delivery and security. The contact form may load Cloudflare Turnstile to detect automated submissions. Security checks can process device and request information; some Cloudflare configurations can also use necessary security cookies. These are separate from advertising or visitor analytics.

The staff area uses Cloudflare Access and the __Host-wcld_admin authentication cookie. The website’s admin session cookie has a 12-hour browser lifetime with sliding renewal and a seven-day absolute session limit. Cloudflare Access has its own configured session rules. These services are for administration, not public visitor tracking.

The admin dashboard also uses sessionStorage for wcld:admin-welcome-phrase to rotate its welcome text in the current tab. This is not used on public pages and is not a visitor profile.

Your choice about YouTube videos

The videos on About Us and Past Work are hosted by YouTube (Google). Their cover images are served from this website. No YouTube player is loaded and this video feature sends no request to Google until you choose “Load video from YouTube”.

Loading a video connects your browser to Google. Google may process information such as your IP address, device details and viewing activity, and may use cookies or similar technologies. We use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced player, but this does not mean that Google processes no information. You can leave the video unloaded and read the page instead.

Your choice applies only to that player on the current page. “Close YouTube video” removes the player and stops further activity from it; it does not undo information already sent or clear Google’s browser data. Reloading the page requires a new choice. The separate “Watch on YouTube” link opens Google’s website in another tab.

Fonts, speech and external links

Our website fonts are served from this website rather than requested from Google Fonts. Links to LinkedIn or other websites do not embed their tracking tools here; those services apply their own rules when you visit them.

“Listen to Page” uses your browser’s speech-synthesis feature. Depending on the voice selected by your browser or operating system, speech may be generated locally or by an online service. You can stop reading with the same control.

There are no advertising cookies, marketing pixels or visitor analytics scripts added by WCLD. If this changes, the notices and any consent controls must be updated before the new tools are activated.
